Bad Koenigshofen is a spa town in the north Lower Franconia in the Grave field.
background
Königshofen was first mentioned in a document in 741 and began as a former Carolingian royal court. The city wall was built around 1315 and Königshofen received city rights in 1320.
In 1525 the town was destroyed in the Peasants' War, in 1562 it was devastated by a major fire, and in 1634/35 there was an epidemic of hunger and plague.
From around 1650 Königshofen became a town under Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn von Würzburg fortress expanded, the facilities were dismantled again at the beginning of the 19th century with the exception of a few parts (cellar and vault).
The story as Spa begins in 1896: while searching for drinking water, the healing springs are discovered and from then on they are used to treat health disorders. The official title bath has been running Königshofen since 1974.

The former railway line to Bad Königshofen has been closed. It is partly passable as a cycle path.

Bad Königshofen is on the B 279 federal road from Bad Neustadt to Bamberg and can be easily reached via this. Junction of the B 279 to the A 71 motorway (Thuringian-Forest motorway): Exit Bad Neustadt.
The parking lot in the center on the market square is chargeable, but there are other free parking spaces near the center.

Churches
1 City parish church of the Assumption. built from 1442 to 1520. There is that in the tower Tower Museum, from the tower takes place on Sundays Türmerblasen instead of.
2 Pilgrimage Church of the Birth of the Virgin (in the Ipthausen district). Built with rococo furnishings from 1749 - 1754 according to plans by the Königshöfer master mason Johann Michael Schmitt. The goal of the pilgrimage, which was abandoned in the 20th century, was a pieta from the 17th century that was kept in the church.
3 St. Wendelin (in the Eyershausen district). The long-lost "Holy Grave" can be visited at Easter time.

4 Historic market place with three wells and the old one Grain measuring stone: In the hemispherical basins with different diameters, the traders could fill the grain according to "shaken and leveled measure".
5 Old Town Hall (with chimes) (at the market square). Built in 1563/75 after the city fire.
The historical city wall from the time of the prince-bishop's fortress with a total of four city gates is still preserved in fragments. B. in the spa gardens.
- 6 City gate "Am Obertor" The only surviving city gate, privately owned;
7 Wildberg castle ruins. Erected in the 12th century by the Counts of Wildberg as the ancestral seat of the Counts, it came to the Würzburg Monastery in 1368 and was then destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525. The ring moat, wall remains and cellar vaults have been preserved. Location: in Sulzfeld near Bad Königshofen.

8 Archaeological Museum Bad Königshofen in Grabfeld, Martin-Reinhard-Strasse 9, 97631 Bad Königshofen. Tel.: 49 (0)9761 40 934. The museum with museum shop is housed in the historical "Schranne", a former granary, built around 1690 and shows exhibits on the prehistory and early history of the grave field and eastern Lower Franconia. The museum, opened in 1988, is a branch of State Archaeological Collection in Munich.
Museum for cross-border commuters (History of the border in Grabfeld to the GDR.), Martin-Reinhard-Str. 9, 97631 Bad Königshofen (Access via the Archaeological Museum). Tel.: 49 (0)9761 40934. Developed in 1966 from the former border information point in Breitensee, after a few makeshift arrangements, opened as a museum on June 17, 2006 with 150 m² of exhibition space in Königshofen at the current location.Open: Tues. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.; Thurs. 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.; Sat. and Sun. 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
9 Tower Museum (in the 63 m high tower of the parish church). One of the smallest museums in Franconia and opened in 2003. You can see the 100-year-old tower clock, insights into the tower parlor and the life of the historic tower keeper.Open: Sun. at 11 a.m.
10 Old kiln (Cultural center, Art and exhibitions), Elisabethastraße 29, 97631 Bad Königshofen. The building of the old kiln is a remnant of the former brewery, it was built around 1600 under Prince-Bishop Julius Echter. From 2008 to 2010 the building was converted into a cultural arsenal and a town twinning location and reopened in spring 2011.
Parks
11 Spa gardens (with foyer). The Kapuzinerklosterkirche was located at the place of the spa park, it was built in 1665 with the monastery. The monastery complex was demolished in 1971.

- At Easter time it can be lost for 100 years Holy grave can be visited daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the St. Wendelin Church
- Türmerblasen: Brass music from the balustrade of the 63 meter high tower of the parish church, in summer every Sunday at 11 a.m. and also at church celebrations.
- The tower keepers play songs that are appropriate to the season according to the tower rules from 1895. The Türmergilde consists of around two dozen musicians from Bad Königshofen and its districts; it is played mostly solo, but also in a group.
- North Bavarian arts and crafts market. Free of mass productions and with a cultural supporting program, takes place every year on a weekend in September on the market square.
