Since the Bavarian regional reform in the years 1971 to 1980, the villages of Brüchs, Heufurt, Leubach, Oberfladungen, Rüdenschrecken, Sands and Weimarschmieden have been districts of Fladungen.

The town is quite clear and can be explored on foot. The way to the Gangolf chapel on the hill is a hike of about half an hour, alternatively: car.

Tourist Attractions

  • 1 Parish Church of St. Kilianus with origins of the masonry dating back to the Middle Ages, but repeatedly rebuilt and changed in character. 1582 addition of the aisle, 1613 brickwork of the upper floor of the tower. In 1642 the church burned down, but was consecrated again in 1659.
  • 2 St. Gangolph's Chapel from 1597, picturesquely situated on a hill southwest not far from the city with a crucifixion group, furnishings from 1750.
  • 3 City fortifications, probably around 1335, very well preserved wall belt with now a dry moat and five defensive towers, restored battlement.
  • 4 Mouth monkey tower, rectangular, very well preserved northern tower of the city fortifications on the road to Oberfladungen with the (now heavily weathered) gargoyle Maulaff with a bare rear part on the round stair tower.
A legend from the Thirty Years' War during the time of the siege by the Swedes and the neighboring town of Oberfladungen, which is allied with the Swedes, is entwined around this male in a clear pose. After that, a baker is said to have baked the figure from the very last flour and placed it on the city wall with the orientation towards the upper loads, which resulted in the withdrawal of the Swedes.
  • 5 Rhön Museum in the historic administrative building from 1628, an important collection of Rhön folk art. Important exhibits: prehistoric and early historical finds, historical maps, carved tables and chairs, painted chests and cupboards, pictures, house crosses and house altars, Rhön carnival masks and small carvings. Museum for rural building culture and for village living and business in Lower Franconia on a museum site with 7 hectares. Important exhibits: eight rural farms and day laborer's houses, community buildings typical of Lower Franconia such as a church, village inn (see kitchen) and Community brewhouse and old mill technology in a grinding mill and an oil mill.
