background

Like no other city in Bavaria, Coburg is closely linked to the history of Central Germany. Until 1919 the city belonged to the dual duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. That came about through a referendum Coburg country in Bavaria, but it still has peculiarities that distinguish it from the rest of the state. For example, Coburg has its own state archive and state theater and other facilities. These peculiarities convinced the Coburgs to decide against Thuringia and to vote for incorporation into Bavaria, which proved to be a great advantage in the times of the Cold War.

A special feature is the way of grilling, on well-dried pine cones (cool called) and not on charcoal, as usual. The length of the bratwurst should correspond to that of the marshal's baton, which the city saint Mauritius, also called bratwurst men, holds in his hand on the gable of the town hall. nightlife

Coburg's nightlife takes place mainly in Steinweg and the adjacent alleys. You will find numerous (rather small to medium-sized) pubs, bars and clubs there. A really big party location is missing in Coburg, although many local politicians have been calling for a large discotheque to be built for years. Still, the nightlife is impressive for a city of this size.

In addition to the city center, there are also regular large party events in the surrounding area, which are very popular with the young population (e.g. Meederer tent carnival).

Another highlight is the Coburg Open Air Summer, where several national and international stars give concerts on Schlossplatz and in Tambach every year.
