Rödental was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of six municipalities. In 1988 Rödental was granted city rights.

Tourist Attractions

  • lock Rosenau (Wikipedia), the former summer residence of the Coburg dukes.   • The classicist Orangery in Rosenau Castle Park was built in 1820 and used to overwinter valuable exotic plants such as palm trees and citrus plants until 1989.

  • The Domain Oeslau, Kronacher Str. 2, 96472 Rödental, was first mentioned in a document in 1162 and completely renovated from August 1985 to May 1988. Today the beautiful ensemble serves as a municipal building yard and youth center. There is also a beer garden where the beer does not have to be transported 100 meters from the nearby Grosch brewery.
  • Instead of an earlier chapel, the St. John's Church built. The late Gothic chancel has the only cell vault in the Coburg area. During the renovations under Duke Johann Casimir, the stuccoing of the ceiling, pulpit and galleries were made in the forms of the late Renaissance and renewed in 1863 at the request of Queen Victoria. In 1954 the church was enlarged and in 1975 it was restored in the colors of 1601. The church is open from May to September from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Benedictine monastery Mönchröden, Klosterhof 6, 96472 Rödental, was founded more than 850 years ago. The current buildings date from 1446. Remains of frescoes in the northeast room of the 3rd floor date from the beginning of the 16th century. The refectory, the former granary of the monastery, is an elongated, two-storey, late-Gothic functional building from 1516. Between 1543 and 1548, monastery life was extinguished.
  • The castle ruins of the Lauterburg is on the edge of the district Oberwohlsbach on the Spitzberg
