1  Brennhausen Castle: The lonely and atmospheric moated castle has its beginnings sometime in the 13th century and according to a legend as a monastery, a Brennhausen castle is first mentioned in 1393.

Brennhausen Castle is a three-wing complex open to the west with a lake in the north and east and a dry moat on the other sides.

The ownership structure and the lords of the castle were quite changeable in the Middle Ages, the complex belonged to the domain of the Hochstift Würzburg. There is no evidence of major war damage to the building fabric. Since 1681 the castle has belonged to the Barons of Bibra, who established a branch line here. The building is still inhabited today by the line of the Barons von Bibra-Brennhausen and is therefore not accessible to tourists inside. The lake at the castle can be circumnavigated.

Directions: The castle, with a few farm buildings, is a lonely hamlet in the middle of the corridor and around three kilometers west of Sulzdorf: Access via Brennhäuser Straße (Flurweg) and from the western end of Sulzdorf.

Sternberg Castle

2  Sternberg Castle (in the village of Sternberg). : The previous building was a castle built in 1199 by Count Heinrich von Henneberg as an administrative center and symbol of rule and at the foot of the “Sterinbercs”. The word "stero" is Old High German and means Widderberg, the name of the castle was later transferred to the place. The history of the castle was changeable, in the middle of the 15th century it was one of the largest Ganerbe castles (several families as castle residents) in the bishopric of Würzburg, it was destroyed in the Peasants' War.

The current palace building was built from 1667 and is one of the largest country palaces in Franconia. The structure, which is strictly square in plan, was created in the spirit of the Baroque era: the four corner towers, aligned precisely with the cardinal points, signify the four seasons, twelve chimneys symbolize the months, 52 doors represent the weeks and 365 windows represent the days of the year.

The ownership structure of the castle was also changeable over the centuries, since 1933 the country castle has belonged to the religious community "Humane Society" (pacifist and vegetarian). The National Socialists expropriated the complex and maintained various camps here, and towards the end of the war the castle was in ruins. It was then restored in an exemplary manner by the religious community.

The original structure of the castle has remained unchanged to this day, and the interior is rather simple.
