Großburgwedel is a district and administrative seat of City of Burgwedel in the north of the Hanover region.

Großburgwedel is the capital of the municipality and town of Burgwedel, which also includes the villages of Engensen, Fuhrberg, Kleinburgwedel, Oldhorst, Thönse and Wettmar. The municipality belongs to the region Hanover and is located in the northeast of the city. It borders the community in the west Wedemark, in the south to the community Isernhagen and in the east to the church Burgdorf. The district is in the north Celle.

  • The pedestrian zone consists to a large extent of very old half-timbered houses, every new building had to adapt to this building structure, building sins are not found here. It is not very long, but very beautiful. You can find pretty much everything you would expect in a mid-range center.
  • The Evangelical Church of St. Petri was built around 1200 (which is not certain, however). It is very well preserved and is still in use today. You can find them when you walk or drive from the city center towards the motorway.
  • The tower of St Petri is 61m high and thus the highest in the former district of Hanover.

Around Burgwedel is Feldmark, where you can go hiking. The trails are all in pretty good shape and do not require a lot of experience or fitness. The same goes for cyclists. However, if you want to drive through the Feldmark here, you should already have a suitable bike. A trekking bike is compulsory, a mountain bike is better.

A very personal and therefore subjective recommendation is the Toscana restaurant not far to the west of the pedestrian zone. It's not that easy to find because it's in a back yard. It is characterized by a very nice ambience and very tasty food.

  • If you like it quieter, go to "Anno", actually "Anno Dazumal" on the road to the autobahn. It is a quaint little pub where you can also eat good and rustic food that has a long tradition.
  • The "Schateke" is not that easy to find. It is located a little north of the pedestrian zone in the street: On the Amtshof. It calls itself a nostalgia bar, but the audience here is often younger than it was in the old days. You can eat here too. The quaint pub is quite large, but still quite full, especially on weekends.
  • If you want to hit the big slopes, you have to go to Hanover. However, the connections to Hanover are also quite bad on the weekends. Here you often do it in such a way that you leave as late as possible and then come back home with the first train.
