Kiel is the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein and a traditional university town with almost 250,000 inhabitants. The city is known worldwide for the Kiel Week and the Kiel Canal, which flows into the Kiel Fjord here.

Kiel and sailing are two inextricably linked terms far beyond Germany, especially since the sailing competitions of the Summer Olympics in 1972, which, unlike the other games, did not take place in Munich, but around the Schilksee Olympic Center on the Kiel Fjord. Das Diskothekenzentrum besteht aus vier Clubs, in denen unterschiedliche Musik gespielt wird: Das Tucholsky selbst spielt gemischte Musik aus dem Rock- und Popbereich, das T2 Rock und Metal, im Böll und im neueröffneten T3 wird Black Music aufgelegt. Kiel ist eine relativ sichere Stadt. In den Stadtteilen Gaarden und Mettenhof sollten sich Frauen und ängstliche Personen nachts nicht ohne ortskundige Begleitung aufhalten, da hier die Straßenkriminalität besonders ausgeprägt ist. In der Bergstraße und am Hafen kommt es gelegentlich zu Prügeleien und Messerstechereien alkoholisierter Kneipen- und Discobesucher.

Während der Kieler Woche ist besonders auf Taschendiebe zu achten.
