Osten has the oldest transporter ferry in Germany, which has been a connection across the Oste River since 1909. Their construction, with a clearance height of 21 m above sea level, enables even larger sailing ships to pass through. At the time of its construction, the Oste was still an important trade route with heavy shipping traffic. Today it is only used for tourist purposes.
