The closest international airport is the Hanover Airport(IATA: HAJ).
By train
Northeim lies on one of the most important north-south connections of the Deutsche Bahn, the Hanover Southern Railway. Long-distance trains only stop occasionally (ICs), but there are hourly connections with the metronome both direction Hannover and direction Goettingen, plus regional connections to the southern Harz and to the Weser Bodenfelde Direction Ottbergen.

In the sixties Northeim was a model town for a new old town. Therefore, a larger part of the completely preserved old town including the monastery complex was demolished to make room for new buildings. From a touristic point of view, this does not have a positive effect on the cityscape.
