Salzder heroes is a stain in Southern Lower Saxony and is located about 3 km southeast of the beer city Einbeck, whose district is Salzderhelden. Overlooked by the ruins of the Heldenburg and dominated by the large flood retention basin for the Leine, the place, which at first glance seems inconspicuous, can look back on a long and significant history from 1280 as a ducal seat, mint and salt production site, initially led by the young Duke of Braunschweig and Count Palatine from Saxony Heinrich the Wondrous government alone, but soon until the division of the paternal inheritance, which was probably held in 1286, with his brothers Albrecht and Wilhelm together. He often stayed in Salzderhelden. When it was divided, Heinrich then received Grubenhagen, Einbeck, half of the city of Hameln, the Brunswick possessions in Eichsfelde to Gieboldehausen, Duderstadt, Lindau, Seeburg, further Osterode, Amelungsborn, the third part of the spiritual fiefs of Brunswick and the Rammelsberg mining and the forests around Clausthal and had his residence in Salzderhelden expanded with the Heldenburg. The Sachsenross of Lower Saxony's coat of arms was first used here in 1361. A little later, in 1365, a cannon was used for the first time in Germany to defend the castle.

1 Heldenburg. The ruin of the Heldenburg is visible from afar as a remnant of a hilltop castle from the 13th century above the town. First documented in 1320 as castrum solth, known as Salzburg, it served primarily to protect the salt springs at the foot of the ridge, then as the seat of the ducal. Built either by the Guelph Dukes or the House of Dassel, the castle was owned by the Dukes of Grubenhagen in the following centuries, until ownership of the house finally passed to the Celle line of the Guelph House. The castle fell into disrepair since the 18th century. Today parts of the palace, the castle chapel, two towers and two beer cellars are still preserved. The castle complex is freely accessible.
2 Old salt works Salzderhelden (Industrial monument) (at the western entrance to the village). In Salzderhelden, for a good 500 years, in small boiling houses, Salt puddle called, salt boiled, when the decision was made in 1757 to build a salt works as a salt union. The original systems were small and economically unprofitable, also because operations had to be interrupted again and again because of the high water levels in the river. The new location was flood-free and was further developed over the centuries until a hole was drilled to a depth of 380 m in 1859. Here, 26% brine could now pump. As early as 1851, the saline was also used for healing purposes, for which bathrooms and an inhalation room were built. In 1920 the Salzderhelden brine bath was founded - by joining the Hanover Southern Railway Spa guests and bathers could easily reach Salzderhelden even from further away. The salt production was stopped in 1963, until 1994 brine was still subsidized for the bathing operation. Many buildings, including the old water art for transporting water from the site to the saltworks, were demolished over time. The brine tank from 1882, which was built from the wood of the graduation tower that was demolished at the time, has been preserved. The derrick burned down in July 2020. Information about the saltworks is also available in the museum in the train station.
