Homberg (Efze) is a city in North Hesseon the northern foothills of the Knüllgebirge lies. It is the district town of the Schwalm-Eder district.

The international Frankfurt Airport is about 150 km south.

By train

The next train station with a connection to national rail traffic is Wobble, which is about 10 km north of the city, from here buses run into the city.

The highway A7 Leave Kassel - Fulda at the junction "Homberg (Efze)". The city center can be reached via the federal road.

By bicycle

The city is located on the Hessian long-distance cycle route R 5, which opens up the city from Malsfeld an der Fulda. In a westerly direction, the R 5 connects to the Schwalm cycle path and the Hessian long-distance cycle path R 4.

Bicycle parking

There are "tourist bike boxes" on the market square. Bicycles and luggage can be parked here to prevent theft. The keys for the boxes are in the nearby tourist information available. About any parking fees or Key deposit is not available. However, boxes with coin deposit locks, such as those found in indoor swimming pools, would be more practical. Tourist Attractions

The Old town as a whole is very worth seeing. The medieval town center has largely been preserved to this day.

  • Marketplace - The ensemble of half-timbered town hall, the 1 Parish Church of St. Mary and numerous other half-timbered houses is the icing on the cake of the historic old town.
  • Remains of the city wall - is completely preserved Powder tower on Wallstrasse from the 13th century.
  • Gothic house on the corner of Untergasse and Holzhäuser Strasse - the city's oldest house from the 15th century.

Hohenburg

From the Hohenburg you have a beautiful view of the city and the region. The tower can be climbed on a spacious spiral staircase (distance tables for the view on the tower wall). The castle has a 150 m deep well that is illuminated. A tour of the castle is possible with the help of information boards. Excursion catering is also available at the castle. The ascent to the castle is possible from the east side of the mountain by car / bicycle via a steep, asphalted road (parking lot directly at the castle). Entry: The facility is accessible free of charge. The Castle Association but asks for a donation for his work (donation box at the castle gate).
