Schwalmstadt is an amalgamation of the two cities Treysa and Goat grove and the surrounding towns of Allendorf, Ascherode, Dittershausen, Florshain, Frankenhain, Michelsberg, Niederlimitebach, Rörshain, Rommershausen, Trutzhain and Wiera.

The community lies in the Schwalm in the Schwalm-Eder district in North Hesse.

Schwalmstadt was founded in 1970 when the two cities of Treysa and Ziegenhain with the surrounding villages such as Allendorf, Ascherode, Dittershausen, Florshain, Frankenhain, Niederbegrenzebach, Rommershausen, Rörshain, Trutzhain and Wiera were combined to form the city of Schwalmstadt (Michelsberg was added in 1972).

  • Train station in Treysa on the route Frankfurt - Kassel with a 2-hour stop of the ICE Frankfurt - Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe - Hamburg and RegionalExpress Frankfurt - Kassel Hbf. In addition, the "MittelhessenExpress" from Frankfurt runs every hour, which stops at every train station as far as Marburg.
The Schwalmstadt-Treysa train station is not barrier-free except for platform 1. The central platform with tracks 2 and 3 (trains in the direction of Kassel and “MittelhessenExpress”) can only be reached via stairs. Platform 1 (ICE and RE trains in the direction of Marburg / Frankfurt am Main) directly at the station building is accessible at ground level. The train station is to be modernized to be barrier-free by 2015.

  • From North Hesse /kassel from you reach Schwalmstadt via the connection of the A49 near Neuental / Bischhausen
  • About the A7 and their departure Homberg (Efze) you can reach Schwalmstadt from the south as well as Bavaria
  • About the A5 and their departure Alsfeld you can reach Schwalmstadt from the west or south-west from the next larger towns such as to water and Frankfurt am Main
  • A direct connection from Schwalmstadt-Treysa to the existing one A49 near Neuental / Bischhausen is under construction by the way!
  • The German half-timbered street leads through the place.

By bicycle

  • The Hessian long-distance cycle route R 4 crosses the Schwalm supraregional. There is also the Schwalm cycle pathwhich follows the course of the river from Vogelsberg to the Ederniederung near Felsberg.

  • Goat grove
    • Museum of the Schwalm in Schwalmstadt-Ziegenhain - exhibition on regional history from prehistory and early history. Further topics: Presentation of the history of the fortress Ziegenhain · Information about the Schwalm costumes.
    • Ziegenhain Castle and Fortress - now houses a.o. a prison. The old structure of the fortress with moats is still visible today in the townscape of Ziegenhain.

To go biking

The ADFC (General German Bicycle Club) - Schwalmstadt regularly organizes bike tours in the region. Bicycle tours are offered to all citizens, whether members of the ADFC or not. Participation in the day tours of the ADFC Schwalmstadt is usually free of charge (donations are however gladly accepted). Only entrance fees, travel, food or, if necessary, accommodation costs are to be borne by yourself and paid directly on site. (for more see homepage)

Gliding

The “Der Ring” glider airfield is located in the district of Ziegenhain. There you can learn and practice gliding. Further information is available from the Aviation Association Schwalm e.V..

A flight as a guest usually does not cost much, is fun and you can see the entire region and landscape from above, A very special experience! In addition, at the weekend if the weather is good, simply speak to the ground staff at the glider airfield.
