Wedel is generally in the shadow of the oversized neighboring city Hamburg, but as far as the incoming ship on the Elbe is concerned, the place has the edge: On Welcome Höft, the ship's welcome system at the Schulauer Fährhaus, the ships come by, before they arrive in Hamburg and are welcomed here appropriately, with names, national anthems and greetings in the respective national language.
As a stage station for cyclists, as a starting point for trips to Heligoland, as a starting point for exploring the Lower Elbe - there are numerous reasons to take a vacation in the lesser-known little sister Wedel of the big Hanseatic city.

During the day (or with lighting in the evening) you might sit on the new, spacious Willkomm-Höft, which is also the landing stage for the Heligoland ferries, and look at the large pots that pass you up and down the Elbe - sometimes it is the Queen Mary 2 there. The Elbe is here, about 47 nautical miles from its mouth in the North Sea between Cuxhaven and Brunsbuettel, after all, already about 2 km wide and busy around the clock by container and cruise ships, but of course also by plenty of leisure boats of all kinds.
