The Federal motorway 48 (BAB 48 or A 48), is a federal trunk road and at the same time part of Europastraße 44, which runs from the Federal motorway 1 at the Vulkaneifel triangle in a north-easterly direction Koblenz over to the Federal motorway 3 which it reaches at the Dernbacher Dreieck.
The total length of the motorway is 78 km.
background
The motorway was originally planned to be much longer, namely from the Federal motorway 5 at the Reiskirchener Dreieck to the north to water over and over Wetzlar to Limburg as well as in the west to the border Luxembourg, partly in a double tour with the Federal motorway 1. At Gießen and Wetzlar, shorter sections were realized, which are now known as the BAB 480, while the Wetzlar-Limburg connection is from the federal highway, which is partially expanded to four lanes is formed. The connection to the Luxembourg border is provided by the Federal motorway 64 which has no connection with the rest of the German motorway network.
