Montabaur [ˈmɔntabauɐ] is the district town of the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate. The city is also the administrative seat of the association of the same name, to which a further 24 municipalities belong. The castle and the Montabaur train station with ICE section on the high-speed line Cologne – Rhine / Main are known nationwide. Montabaur has a history that can be traced back to the Humbach Castle, today's castle, as far back as 959. In the meantime the city was renamed Mons Tabor, from which the current name Montabaur became. Montabaur received city rights as early as 1291.

The closest airports are the Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) and the Frankfurt am Main airport (FRA).
