The Federal motorway 38 (BAB 38 or A 38, also as Südharzautobahn known) leads out of the room Goettingen of the Federal motorway 7 to Naunhof east of Leipzigwhere they at the Federal motorway 14 ends. It runs over the Thuringian Eichsfeld and south on Nordhausen passing through the Golden floodplain to Sangerhausen, takes the at Dreieck Südharz Federal highway 71 on, continues through that Mansfeld country and over the triangle Halle-Süd and on Hall and Merseburg over to the cross Rippachtal with the Federal motorway 9 and bypasses Leipzig in the south. With the Leipzig-Süd connection it will in future be based on the Federal motorway 72 to meet. The triangle Parthenaue forms the eastern end of the motorway, where it meets the BAB 14. The total length of the motorway is 219 km.
