The winter sports resort Schöneck is at an altitude of over 707 m, making it the highest town in the Vogtlandes. Because of the altitude and the extensive forests, Schöneck is a popular resort and winter sports area that has been recognized by the state since 1962.

background

Schöneck has been a town since 1370, the oldest documented mention goes back another century when the castle Castrum Schoennecke was mentioned as a medieval manor house. After several city fires (1632, 1680, 1761 and 1856), Schöneck finally found its way into industrialization in the second half of the 19th century. So cigar production was introduced into home and factory work. The railway line was built in 1875 and the population grew rapidly until the First World War.

By plane

By train

Schöneck has two stops on the railway line from Zwickau/Plauen to Klingenthal: the train station that was dismantled from the breakpoint and the new breakpoint further south Schöneck holiday park. The connection is made with the railcars Vogtland Railway operated.

The city is via mostly dead straight streets from the direction Falkenstein, Oelsnitz, Adorf, Klingenthal and Muldenberg reachable.

The streets are usually cleared in winter, but parking spaces on the cross-country ski trails can become scarce.

Tourist Attractions

An interesting vantage point is that Rock Alter Söll (734 m), from which one has a panoramic view of the upper Vogtland with the Elster Mountains, the Elstertal and with good visibility even up to Fichtel Mountains Has.

activities

In winter, the forest paths offer skiers a comprehensive 40 km network of trails. One begins here Kammloipe to Johanngeorgenstadt. For alpinists there is a small ski area with a four-seater chairlift (for more see www.skiwelt-schoeneck.com).

In summer, the forest paths are also well suited for hiking. We recommend a hike to the Muldenberg dam, where you can either take the train back from the train station that has been dismantled to the stop or from the Muldenberg Floßplatz stop, which is only a little further away.
