Bad Eilsen is a state-approved place with a mineral spring spa and is located in Schaumburger Land between the Harrl near Bückeburg and the Bückeberg in the north-western area of the Weser Uplands close to the border with North Rhine-Westphalia. The neighboring cities are Obernkirchen, Rinteln and Buckeburg.

The healing springs have been known since the early Middle Ages and are among the strongest sulfur springs in Europe. As early as 1794, Countess Juliane zu Schaumburg-Lippe decided to turn the village of Eilsen into a spa. The first bathhouse was opened around 1802 and the community developed into a fashionable spa. At the moment, part of the swimming pool is operated by the German Pension Insurance Braunschweig-Hannover.
