Beckum is a medium-sized city in Münsterland. The city gives its name to a small mountain range in the Münsterland, the Beckum Mountains. The city is characterized by the cement industry and limestone mining, several former quarries have now been renatured and are used as parks or for nature conservation.

The Beckum district of Neubeckum is on the Hamm-Minden railway line. The Neubeckum station is served every hour by the RE6 lines (Cologne / Bonn Airport–DusseldorfDortmundHammBielefeldMinden) and RB 69 (Muenster–Hamm – Bielefeld). From here there is a connection with various bus lines to the core city of Beckum and the other districts.

From the endpoint in Muenster-Gelmer leads the Werse bike path above Albersloh, Sendenhorst, Drensteinfurt and Awls to Beckum.

  • 1  Provost church of St. Stephanus and Sebastian. First written mention of the parish of St. Stephanus and Sebastian around 1134. Belongs to the original parishes of the Münsterland. The church was one of the four episcopal chaplains, so its occupation was reserved exclusively for canons. Particularly worth seeing: baptismal font from the middle of the 13th century, shrine of St. Prudentia, the most important medieval gold shrine in Westphalia. Largest preserved late romantic organ in Westphalia, built in 1913 by Johannes Klais.

The other monastery buildings fell victim to the Beckum town fire or were demolished after secularization in 1803 and the abolition of the monastery in 1814. Part of the defunct earlier Beckum city fortifications at that time located between the west and south gates. Built in the 14th century, first mentioned in a document in 1455.
