Gutersloh is a city in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
background
The village of Gütersloh was first mentioned in 1184. The village belonged to the rulership until the 16th century Rheda. 1825 were from the Prussian King Wilhelm III. granted city rights to the municipality. Today the two globally active companies shape Bertelsmann (Media group, 12,500 employees in the Gütersloh district) and Miele (Household appliances, 5,000 employees) the city.

Half-timbered buildings from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved around the Old Church Square at the Apostle Church. Worth mentioning is the Veerhoffhaus from 1649. The Protestant Martin Luther Church and the Catholic St. Pankratius Church date from the 19th century. The city library, built with funds from Bertelsmann Foundation, is remarkable for an institution in a medium-sized town. Also worth seeing are the Botanical garden with apothecary and lavender garden in the city Park as well as the city museum on Kolbeplatz. The Mühlenstroth small steam train at the post embankment.
