The small town Scheßlitz lies on the eastern edge of the Upper Mainland, on the ascent to Franconian Switzerland. In 2005 Scheßlitz celebrated its 1200th anniversary.

By plane

The closest airport is the Nuremberg Airport approx. 1½ hours, travel via the A73, away.

In the street

Scheßlitz is across the Autobahn A70, Bamberg - Bayreuth reachable. The departure is Symbol: AS 18 Scheßlitz. The motorway crosses not far to the west A73 from Nuremberg the A70 and continues towards Lichtenfels. Bundesstraße 22 also runs on the Bamberg – Bayreuth route.

By train and bus

The nearest train station is in Bamberg. From the station forecourt, take the 963 bus. Please inquire about special features on public holidays. The branch line from Bamberg was shut down in 1985 and is now largely used as a cycle path.

Local public transport in the Nuremberg metropolitan region is operated by the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association VGN operated. It is possible to use different means of transport with one ticket, such as bus, train, S-Bahn or U-Bahn. The tickets can be purchased online or via an app.

Parish Church of St. Kilian
  • The historical site with many half-timbered houses gives an impression of what the town of Scheßlitz looked like in earlier centuries.

The first pastor of this church was already in 1057, Arnold de Sieslice, mentioned at the Bamberg Synod.
  • The Old City Hall was formerly the council chamber and court seat of the chief magistrate. It was acquired by the city in 1853 and rebuilt in 1899/1900 according to plans by the builder Gustav Haeberle. The building with a gable roof and tail gables in neo-baroque forms is used today, among other things. as the city archive.
  • The Marienapotheke was probably built or rebuilt between 1785 and 1792. The house served as an inn for a long time until it became the first pharmacy in Scheßlitz in 1830.

  • The Gügel, a pilgrimage church near the Giechburg and was first mentioned in 1274 as a castle with a chapel. The pilgrimage church stands on a rock, the tower rises partly inserted into the wall. Breweries

In the city of Scheßlitz there are still five breweries, the Senger and Drei Kronen breweries in Scheßlitz, the Hoh brewery in Köttensdorf and in Würgau, one of the oldest breweries in the world, the Hartmann brewery.
