The city Hollfeld lies in the Franconian Switzerland, on the Wiesent and roughly in the middle between Bamberg and Bayreuth. Hollfeld is a state-approved resort; the population is predominantly Catholic.

By plane

The nearest international airport is the Nuremberg Airport.

In the street

The motorway runs ten kilometers north of the city A70 Bayreuth - Schweinfurt, via which you can travel comfortably. Bundesstraße 22 also runs on the Bamberg – Bayreuth route.

By train and bus

The next train station is in Bayreuth, then continue with bus 376. Please inquire about specifics about the bus timetable on public holidays.

Local public transport in the Nuremberg metropolitan region is operated by the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association VGN operated. It is possible to use different means of transport with one ticket, such as bus, train, S-Bahn or U-Bahn. The tickets can be purchased online or via an app.

By bicycle

The branch line from Bayreuth was closed in 1974 and expanded as a cycle path. Partly tarred, partly gravel, the path leads through Franconian Switzerland without major inclines away from the roads.

The Citizen bus runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Waischenfeld to Hollfeld and back, from Sachsendorf to Hollfeld and back, from Wiesentfels to Hollfeld and back and from Pilgerndorf to Hollfeld and back.

The runs every Saturday evening Leisure bus the popular discos and dance halls in the district of Bayreuth.

Tourist Attractions

  • The origin of the Gangolf Church probably in the 11th century. The 38 m high defense tower is Hollfeld's landmark today. It served as a guard tower with a battlement with a wooden cornice, on which a tent roof with a lantern. It can still be climbed with 104 stairs today.
  • On the steep Gangolfsberg below the St. Gangolfskirche is a Cross bearer from 1728 to be admired.
  • The Old City Hall at Marienplatz was built in its current form in 1724 after the great city fire. In the Middle Ages it was called Meat and department store with general stores or as Department store with hall court designated.
  • This is located at Marienplatz Benefit house from 1748, the bourgeois daughters used to teach here.
  • In the middle of Marienplatz lies the medieval Draw well, it is 38 m deep and was first mentioned in 1435.
  • The medieval one Upper gate was formerly a bridge tower with a striking bridge over a deep ditch.
  • The former District Court is a large baroque building that was built as a former prince-bishop's office in 1734.
  • Lorenzhäusla, former farm bourgeois house built in 1727 in half-timbered construction, stone facade blinded around 1790, extensively renovated in 2002/02
Parish Church of the Assumption
  • The baroque one Nepomuk Chapel from 1734
  • The Parish Church of the Assumption was destroyed and rebuilt several times. From 1778 and 1781 the parish church was rebuilt from scratch according to a design by the Bamberg master builder Johann Josef Vogel.

Terraced gardens
  • The Terraced gardens (Orchids - Butterfly - Scents) under the city wall near the Gangolf Church are worth a visit at any time of the year. From spring through early, high and late summer to autumn, the typical plants of the dry heights in Franconian Switzerland bloom, but foreign orchids and cacti can also be admired.

  • The Indoor swimming pool The Hollfeld comprehensive school is open to everyone on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., admission closes at 8:00 p.m., the pool is closed during the Bavarian school holidays.

  • Scheßlitz (23 km west, B 22 or A 70) - small town on the descent into the Upper Mainland; not far from the city the Giechburg.
  • Ebermannstadt (24 km south) - the secret capital Franconian Switzerland; Water wheel from 1606 and Feuerstein Castle.
