The nearest international airport is the Nuremberg Airport.

In the street

Waischenfeld lies between the motorways A9 (Departure Dry weather), A70 (Departure Stadelhofen) and A73 (Departure Forchheim-South). From the last-mentioned exit, the B 470 leads across Franconian Switzerland Gößweinstein, where the road to Waischenfeld branches off to the left.

The Castle Road leads through the place.

By train and bus

The next train station is in Bayreuth, then continue with the bus or the collective call taxi

There are public transport and OVF bus connections from Bayreuth - Mistelbach / EckersdorfGößweinstein and back, or Ebermannstadt - Waischenfeld (- Heroldsberg / Hubenberg) and back.

Local public transport in the Nuremberg metropolitan region is operated by the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association VGN operated. It is possible to use different means of transport with one ticket, such as bus, train, S-Bahn or U-Bahn. The tickets can be purchased online or via an app.

  • Visits to Rabeneck Castle are possible, but without guided tours. The castle is open on Sundays and public holidays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed in winter. Entrance fees for adults € 1.50, students € 1 and children € 0.50. There are also regular medieval events at the castle.
  • The castle chapel St. Bartholomew was built in 1412 on a rock spur next to Rabeneck Castle
  • The Rabenecker mill is a beautiful half-timbered house with a barrage on the Wiesent. It was first mentioned in the 14th century.
  • It is still in the wall of a house near the Rabenecker Mühle Swedish ball by 1632
  • The Russian linden tree stands on the way from Breitenlesau to Plankenfels, under it there is a memorial column adorned with a crucifix

Boaters on the Wiesent

The inner courtyard of Waischenfeld Castle with its beer garden and covered stage is often used for events.

There is one around Waischenfeld Monuments circular hike.

Waischenfeld is also a popular place for fly fishing. Several accommodations can issue permits.

The Wiesent offers the only river hike that is still permitted in Franconian Switzerland. The river stretch, with around 28 km, is particularly recommended for fans of easy white water (levels of difficulty WW I and II) (info).

A few kilometers downstream from Waischenfeld at the parking lot in Doos is a starting point for river walks.   • That is the highlight of the Christmas calendar Festival of Lights on New Year's Eve from 5 p.m. in Nankendorf with the burning of mountain fires and processional celebrations. Thousands of small wood fires are lit on the mountain slopes after dark, the street lights go out, a church procession at the end of Perpetual Adoration goes through the village, bells ring and the brass band plays church melodies.

  • Gößweinstein (13 km south) - market town with pilgrimage basilica, castle and monastery.
  • Hollfeld (13 km north) - small town up the meadow; Blue tower with museum and artist studio.
  • The adventure pool for families is that Therme Obernsees with slide, steam bath and sauna area in Mistelgau.
