Bad Staffelstein is a health resort in upper main valley in Upper Franconia. The place is in the middle of the picturesque region God's garden. The main attraction is that Obermain Therme with Bavaria's warmest and strongest thermal brine.

Bad Staffelstein coat of arms.svg

The city's most famous son is born in Staffelstein in 1492 Adam giant, a mathematician of the Middle Ages, who through his arithmetic books brought the common people closer to the applications of mathematics in the areas of daily life, and whose name still literally stands for elementary arithmetic today.

In 1974 the city council decided to commission a drilling. In August 1975 hot water at 52 ° C was encountered at a depth of 1,600 m. Initially the thermal bath consisted of a wooden tub with a diameter of 6 m. In 1986 the Obermaintherme was opened, the Kurmittelhaus followed in 1989. In a further borehole in 1993, thermal brine was found again at a depth of 1180 m. Over the years the Obermaintherme has been expanded and improved again and again. The spa park was created in 1999 and since 2001 the city has had the addition of a bath.

The former parish of Altenbanz was the center of the Banzgau and is now regarded as one of the Slavic churches of Charlemagne. In the years 1618-1630 the entire church is extensively restored, but shortly afterwards almost completely devastated in the Thirty Years War.
