Weissenstein Castle

Weissenstein Castle was built by Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Elector of Mainz and Prince-Bishop in Bamberg (1675 to 1729) in the years 1711 to 1718 as a private summer residence in the Baroque style, the architect was Johann Dientzenhofer who also built the cathedral Fulda and the monastery in Banz designed.

The castle building is still in the possession of the von Schönborn family today; due to its location away from the city center, the castle has survived the centuries largely unscathed and was only looted once by Prussian troops during the Seven Years' War.
