The market Werneck is a community in Lower Franconia in the upper Werntal and known nationwide for the castle of the same name, built by Balthasar Neumann.
background
Werneck itself was first mentioned in a document in 1223; the district of Eßleben as early as 772.
The designations "..leben" in the names of the districts suggest Thuringian origins.
From the 13th century until the secularization in 1802 and 1803, Werneck was under the rule of the Würzburg prince-bishops and then passed to Bavaria.
In 1984 Werneck was raised to the market.
In addition to Werneck itself, there are the districts of Eckartshausen, Egenhausen, Ettleben, Eßleben, Mühlhausen, Rundelshausen, Schleerieth, Schnackenwerth, Schraudenbach, Stettbach, Vasbühl and Zeuzleben.
