The town Gerolzhofen lies on the northwestern edge of the Steigerwalds in Lower Franconia and has a well-preserved medieval old town.

The first settlements near Gerolzhofen can be traced back to the Bronze Age through archaeological finds. The first mention is dated between 750 and 779, a "Geroltshove in Folcfelden" is in a deed of donation to the monastery Fulda mentioned.
