Tourist Attractions

  • 1  Oberschwarzach Castle, Kirchberg 11, 97516 Oberschwarzach. according to the latest research (see Web links) Significant parts of the complex (the cellar, the outer walls and the two towers of the castle) date from the period before 1600, when a castle-like official property has presumably existed here since the time after the Peasant Wars from 1525. In 1604 the castle was extensively rebuilt in a second construction phase by the Würzburg prince-bishop Julius Echter. An inscription on the castle with the year 1614 probably stands for the 40th anniversary of the reign of Füstbishop Julius Echter. From around 1720, the castle was rebuilt again in the Baroque era and redesigned to reflect the taste of the time.
  • Parish Church of Peter and Paul. With Madonna and Child from the 15th century and Saint Sebastian from the workshop of Tilman Riemenschneider.
  • Pentagonal Weinbergskapelle 14 Holy Helpers from 1981 with a tent roof and campanile on the Herrenberg, the Oberschwarzach vineyard
  • Marian column
  • 2 Stollburg castle ruins on the Stollberg, Germany's highest vineyard in the Handthal district. The castle is said to be the birthplace of the minstrel Walther von der Vogelweide.
