Wonsees is a market in the district Kulmbach in the Bavarian administrative district Upper Franconia. Wonsees is a member of the "Romantic Three" - Kasendorf - Wonsees - Thurnau.

In 1323 Wonsees was raised to the market. Today it consists of the following districts: Feulersdorf, Gelbsreuth, Grossenhül, Kleinhül, Lindenmühle, Plötzmühle, Sanspareil, Schirradorf, Schlötzmühle, Wonsees and Zedersitz.

- The 1 Sanspareil rock garden, Sanspareil 34.
is a landscape garden with bizarre rock formations, ruin theater and an oriental building. The garden was created at the instigation of the Margravine Wilhelmine, a sister of the Prussian King Friedrich II. The rock garden is freely accessible, the museum in the oriental building and the castle café in the kitchen building are open from April to October. The name is said to go back to the exclamation of a guest "C'est sans pareil" - "This is beyond compare". Sanspareil is pronounced decidedly non-French by the locals, if you pronounce it as it is written and replace the "p" with a "b", you will be understood everywhere.
- The medieval 2 Zwernitz Castle, Sanspareil 29. next to the landscaped garden is newly renovated and now includes a hunting museum.Open: April to September from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., from October 1 to 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed on Mondays.

- The Old market mill, Taubmannstrasse 1, 96197 Wonsees. is a former flour mill, first mentioned in 1619 1619, on the Schwalbach.
- The 3 Parish Church of St. Laurentius, Marketplace 17. was built in the 12th century as a fortified church. Remains of the weir system can still be viewed today. During the Thirty Years' War the church was used as a stable for horses. In the 18th century, St. Laurentius was rebuilt in the margrave style. Its magnificent altar is now considered to be one of the most beautiful altars of all margrave churches. St. Laurentius is open to visitors every day. Free church guides are available in the church. The parish offers free guided tours for individuals and groups who register in advance.

- The Bayreuth studio stage organizes several performances in the ruin theater in Sanspareil at the beginning of August. The spectators sit on chairs, beer benches and beer tables under a rock. The performance takes place without electricity, musicians sit in the orchestra pit with real instruments, the lighting consists of kerosene lamps, torches and candles. As a spectator, you shouldn't forget a flashlight for the way home through the park. - Circular hike (description) of the Juniper slopes near Wonsees via the Schlötzmühle to Sanspareil with Zwernitz Castle and the rock garden and back to Wonsees, the route is 11 km long and takes about three and a half hours of pure hiking time.

- In OT Sanspareil there is a parish fair on Sunday at June 24th
- The sheet cake festival takes place in the OT Großenhül at the end of August. On Sunday afternoons there are around 100 different cakes from the tray. A cup of coffee and a piece of cake cost € 2.50 (2017) and there are also snacks.
- In Wonsees there is a parish fair on the 3rd Sunday in September
- In the OT Sanspareil there is a parish fair on the Sunday after the national mourning day

The cuisine is Franconian, hearty. At the church fair there is always horseradish, boiled pork and beef with a spicy horseradish sauce and potato dumplings. The snacks often consist of homemade sausage, such as pressack, blood sausage, Göttinger, liver sausage or canned meat in addition to ham, cucumber and mustard with bread.

There are a number of options. The world cultural heritage city offers itself as cities Bamberg at, or the Richard Wagner city Bayreuth or to the beer city Kulmbach. There are also very different landscapes in the area. In the south the Franconian Switzerland with its caves and castles in the north Upper Mainland and in the northeast and east the Franconian Forest and the Fichtel Mountains with their coniferous forests and bizarre rocks.
