Neuenmarkt is a municipality in the district Kulmbach in the Bavarian administrative district Upper Franconia and known for its railway museum.
background
The community of Neuenmarkt calls itself Railway village of Neuenmarkt. Neuenmarkt and Hegnabrunn were first mentioned in a document in 1398. As early as 1848, Neuenmarkt received a train station with the Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg train station. This is the starting point of the steep railway line inclined plane. The community of Neuenmarkt has existed since April 1, 1971 as a merger of Neuenmarkt with the previously independent community of Hegnabrunn. Today the place consists of the districts Brandhaus, Eichmühle, Hegnabrunn, Lettenhof, Neuenmarkt, Oberlangenroth, Raasen, Reutlashof, Schlömen, See and Unterlangenroth.

When getting on the train at the platform, you have to be careful to get into the correct wagon. In Neumarkt, trains in the direction of Hof or Bayreuth are split up. When the trains are united, it doesn't matter where you get on. The travel destination is displayed on the individual wagons, if you are unsure you should ask.

More than 30 steam locomotives are preserved for posterity on around 100,000 square meters in the newly built depot and in the historic 15-hour roundhouse of the former depot with the associated functional segment turntable and presented in a historically grown and lively railway landscape. The highlight of the museum is the 10 001 - the last surviving model in this series. - The Railway section3 Inclined plane from Neuenmarkt via Sky crown to Marktschorgast is accompanied by a technology and building history educational trail. The approximately 8 kilometer long hiking trail leads to the most striking art structures, such as retaining walls, culverts and bridges on the steep section. The inclined plane is the oldest steep ramp in Europe with a locomotive operation, built between 1844 and 1848.

The Christ Church is the only railway church in Europe, because architects from the Reich Railway Directorate in Nuremberg created plans for this as a gift to the Neuenmarkt railway community. The church was built accordingly unconventionally. The bright interior is adorned with subtle Art Deco elements. After only 1 year of construction, the church was completed and consecrated in 1926.
