The Weißmain cycle path is the beginning of the Main cycle path

The Weißmain cycle path starts in Fichtel Mountains in Bischofsgrün and leads on White Main along over Bad Berneck to Kulmbach. It is not to be confused with the bike path on Weismain, which runs in the Kleinziegenfelder valley.

The Weißmain cycle path coincides with the first stage of the Main cycle path.

The usual preparation for a bike tour is sufficient; no special measures are necessary for this route.

getting there

Getting to Bischofsgrün by public transport and taking one or more bicycles with you is difficult. The next train stations are in Bayreuth, Willow Hill and Marktredwitz. You have to ask in each individual case whether the buses that continue on will take bicycles with them.

From May 1st to October 3rd, the Fichtelgebirge are in Cycle buses to disposal. They leave on Sundays and public holidays Bayreuth to Karches.

The easiest way to get there is by train to the terminus in Weidenberg and then with a few meters of altitude on the road over Warmensteinach on to Bischofsgrün.

The last meters up to the source on the slope of the Ochsenkopf are then only forest roads. From Karches to Bischofsgrün directly on the young river there is only a hiking trail with wooden walkways in the swampy terrain, nice to walk but not to ride by bike.

Above the inn, the path to Bischofsgrün goes right. In the village you drive past the Karchesstraße

continue on Wunsiedler Straße, Hauptstraße and then down Bahnhofsstraße.

Of 1 Bischofsgrün there is a beautiful cycle path parallel to federal road 303 down 12.5 km away from the road. It is a railway cycle path that was set up on the old railway line and is easy to ride.

One can be found in the center of Kulmbach next to the Dr.-Stammberger-Halle (town hall) 5 Bicycle garage with 12 individual boxes for bicycles, two boxes are equipped with a battery charging station for e-bikes, there is also a changing room to change your sweaty cycling clothes and to explore the city in a relaxed way. The facility is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm from April to October, the cost is € 1 per bike. The tourist information center is on the opposite side of the large car park and there is a public toilet at the entrance to the underground car park.

The cycle path is largely free of traffic. Special care is required when crossing roads and cornering should be driven on the right-hand side to avoid collisions. It should definitely be ridden with a bicycle helmet.
