Heinsberg is a county seat in North Rhine-Westphalia at the Lower Rhine.

background

Heinsberg is a rural medium-sized town in the Rhineland and is located about 30 km southwest of Mönchengladbach and about 35 km north of Aachen on the northern edge of the Cologne Bay between the Lower Rhine and Niedermaas. The city is eponymous district town with around 41,000 inhabitants in 34 districts in North Rhine-Westphalia. The cities of Wassenberg, Hückelhoven and Geilenkirchen, as well as the communities Gangelt and Waldfeucht (all district of Heinsberg) and Gemeente Roerdalen (province of Limburg) border on Heinsberg.

On January 1, 1972, with the municipal reorganization, the city of Heinsberg was also restructured with the districts of Aphoven, Baumen, Berg, Bleckden, Boverath, Donselen, Dorath, Dremmen, Erpen, Eschweiler, Grebben, Heinsberg, Herb, Himmerich, Horst, Hülhoven , Karken, Kempen, Kirchhoven, Laffeld, Lieck, Oberlieck, Oberbruch, Porselen, Pütt, Randerath, Schafhausen, Scheifendahl, Schleiden, Straeten, Uetterath, Unterbruch, Vinn and Waldenrath.

The eponymous district town of Heinsberg achieved a building boom due to the municipal reorganization in 1972. In addition to the new city and district administration, numerous industrial companies settled in spacious industrial areas in and around Heinsberg. The railway connection between Lindern and Heinsberg, which was closed years ago, will be reactivated on December 15, 2013 and handed over to its intended use. Heinsberg is a modern, future-oriented medium-sized town that is looking forward to your visit.
