Grevenbroich is a city in Germany.

background

The first settlements in the Erft valley emerged around 1300. The first mention of Grvenbroich as a town comes from the year 1311. In the 15th century, the former castle was expanded into a castle.

Lignite mining began around 1900 in the Grevenbroich area. As a result, some former places fell victim to the lignite excavators. During the municipal reorganization in 1975, Grevenbroich was combined with the formerly independent municipalities of Gustorf, Neurath, Frimmersdorf, Kapellen, Hemmerden, Wevelinghoven and Neukirchen. Today the city consists of around 30 districts.
