Phibsoo Protected Natural Area is a protected area located in Central Bhutan.
To know
As the Jigme Khesar Nature Reserve it is an area without human settlements.
Geographical notes
It is located in the southern part of the districts of Sarpang and of Dagana, on the border with West Bengal.
It is connected to the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park and al Royal Manas National Park through a "biological corridor" that crosses a national highway. Its elevations range from 200 to 1,600 meters.
Flora and fauna
Phibsoo is unique in Bhutan for its pomellated deer (also known as chital) and the Robusta Shorea (also known as sal). As the Royal Manas National Park, the Phibsoo area is inhabited by elephants, Bengal tigers, gaur, three species of mahseer and perhaps the rare Ganges dolphin.
Background
This facility was created in 1974 along with five other protected areas. At the time it was given the name Phibsoo Reserved Forest. In 1993 there was a revision of the country's protected area system and its status was changed to the current one of "protected natural area".
