background

In the municipality of Arvidsjaur, 6,500 people live in an area that is around 5,500 km², more than twice the size of the Saarland. 4,500 of them live in the city of Arvidsjaur alone. Tourism, the timber industry and companies from the automotive industry, which use several test sites here, are of great economic importance. Before the first Swedish settlers settled permanently around 1757, only the nomadic Sami lived in the region, who lived mainly from reindeer herding. Arvidsjaur is still a center of Sami culture today.
