background

The place Salzdetfurth was mentioned in a document as early as 1194. It developed as a small trading center on the old Frankfurter Heerstrasse. Mainly the salt mined here was traded. Salt was the town's greatest source of income in the centuries to come. However, fires and floods repeatedly impaired development. When the salt trade declined at the end of the 19th century, a brine bath was opened to promote spa and tourism. In 1929 the place was given the name "Bad". Bad Salzdetfurth received city rights in 1949. Today, salt mining has ceased, and tourism plays an important role for the recognized moor and brine bath in the Hanover tourist region.
