Barbizon is a municipality of about 1,000 inhabitants located on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest, in Seine et Marne south-east of Paris.

Understand

Originally a lumberjack village, Barbizon enjoyed major artistic influence during the XIXe century. Painters like Jean-Francois Millet, Theodore Rousseau or Jean-Baptiste Corot favor outdoor painting with unspoiled nature.
