Geographical notes

The Republic of Baskortostan (in Russian: Республика Башкортостан, in Bashkir Башҡортостан Республикаһы, in Tatar Башкортстан Республикасы), is a republic of the Russian Federation, belonging to the Volga Federal District, comprising part of the southern Urals and adjacent lowlands. Its capital is Ufa.

It covers an area of ​​143,600 km² and a population of 4,000,000 inhabitants. It extends west of the Urals and is covered with large forests. The main resources of the republic are the deposits of oil and iron, manganese, copper and gold ores.
