Geographical notes
The Republic of Baskortostan (in Russian: Республика Башкортостан, in Bashkir Башҡортостан Республикаһы, in Tatar Башкортстан Республикасы), is a republic of the Russian Federation, belonging to the Volga Federal District, comprising part of the southern Urals and adjacent lowlands. Its capital is Ufa.
It covers an area of 143,600 km² and a population of 4,000,000 inhabitants. It extends west of the Urals and is covered with large forests. The main resources of the republic are the deposits of oil and iron, manganese, copper and gold ores. Second Switzerland for the geographical similarity: high mountains, evergreen forests everywhere, more than 600 rivers and 800 lakes.
Spoken languages
Russians, Tatars and Bashkirs each populate one third of this Republic. If Russian is the official language for political reasons, keep in mind that it will be much easier to converse with people in Bashkir than in Russian.

How to get
By plane
The largest airport is that of the capital Ufa (IATA: UFA) with flights mainly from other Russian cities, from Israel, Istanbul is Frankfurt am Main as the only European airport.
How to get around
By bus
The bus is the most developed means of transport in the region with frequent and fast journeys. A ride between two cities will cost you from 10 to 30 € depending on the distances (2013).
