The Republic Bashkortostan (Башкортостан), lies on the west side of the Ural. Administratively, it is part of the Russian federal district Volga. It borders the oblast in the southwest and west Orenburg, in the northwest to the republics Tatarstan and Udmurtia, in the northeast to the Perm region and in the east to the oblasts Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk.
