The Volga region(Russian: Поволжье, Povolschye ) is a huge landscape to the left and right of the Volga. In this article, the Volga region is understood to mean the landscape along the middle and lower river courses. It extends roughly from Nizhny Novgorod downstream to Kazan, Samara and Volgograd to Astrakhen and the Volga Delta. It is not congruent with the Volga Federal District, which includes the middle course of the river and its tributaries. The Volga region is delimited by the federal districts Central Russia, Northwest Russia, Ural and Southern Russia.
