KazanRussian: Каза́нь is a city in the Volga region, it has about 1.2 million inhabitants, half Russian and half Tatars. Kssan is the capital of the Autonomous Republic Tatarstan.

Kazan has been an important trading town and capital of a Tatar empire since the 15th century. In 1552 it was conquered by the Russians and was the first non-Slavic city to be integrated into the empire. Kazan was one of the venues for the Football World Cup 2018.

In the city there is a short stretch of metro and a simple system of buses and trams, but be careful after 11 a.m. nothing drives anymore. Even with the car there is no problem, as the traffic is limited. All major sights are in a narrow one anyway City district, so within walking distance.

Many smaller restaurants and coffees around the Kolzo, mostly with Russian cuisine. In the short pedestrian zone Baumanskaya lots of fast food - from sushi to hamburgers. Otherwise many restaurants in all possible directions on the main streets.

  • Kestebe is the national dish of the Tatars. Two flat cakes with mashed potatoes or sometimes millet porridge in between.
  • Tschäk-Tschäk (Russian Чак-чак, Tatar чәк-чәк) are pieces of dough that are fried and coated with honey. There are countless variations, e.g. with chocolate, nuts or sesame seeds.
