background

Beara is something like "the little brother" from the peninsula Iveragh. The landscapes are similar, but the number of tourists is much lower. Due to the lower traffic density, Beara is better suited for trips with children and for cyclists than the "Ring of Kerry"on the northern Iveragh Peninsula.

Irish and English are spoken.

mobility

Ring of Beara

The 140 km long panoramic coastal route Ring of Beara is a lot nicer than the well-known northern route Ring of Kerrybecause it runs along the coast more often and the opposite coasts are closer. However, the regional roads are very narrow. The roads are closed to vehicles weighing more than 2.8 tons. Even coaches cannot drive on the streets. Especially overlooking the tip of the peninsula Dursey Island with the only Irish Cable car, which stretches over two masts from the mainland to the island. Here a sign shows that it is 3310 km to Moscow.

Beara Way

The 200 km long "Beara Way" is an excellent long-distance hiking trail.

Irish Times, Cult pub in the southwest: ". The front half is a grocery store with seats for drinkers; the back half, a bar with groceries.". In this house there was by far the worst toilet and the worst coffee in a dirty dining room. The impressions at the small harbor with some fishing boats and the nets laid out for drying and mending rewarded us for the unsuccessful visit to the restaurant.
