Bialowieza National Park - Białowieski Park Narodowy

Bialowieza National Park (white. Белавежскі нацыянальны парк) - a national park located in the north-eastern Poland, in Podlaskie Voivodeship, in the Białowieża Primeval Forest. Partly in the territory Belarus. It was founded in 1932 and is the oldest national park in the country (as well as in the whole of Europe). Since 1979, the Białowieża National Park belongs to UNESCO World Heritage List. The seat of the park authorities is in Bialowieza.

Characteristic

The Białowieża National Park covers an area of ​​105.17 km², covering the central part of the Polish Białowieża Primeval Forest. The remaining Belarusian part of the park (Belarusian Bieławieżskaja Puszcza National Park) covers a larger forest area than in Poland (58%, including the national park). A large part of the local forests are riparian forests (forests near rivers, swamps and lakes).

By plane

There are no airports in the vicinity of the Białowieża Forest. The nearest ones are located in Szymany near Olsztyn (Olsztyn-Mazury Airport), about 255 km from Białowieża and in Modlin near Warsaw (Warsaw-Modlin Airport), about 240 km away. The nearest to the park (outside Poland) is Brest Airport - located less than 190 km from the Białowieża Forest.

By car

Provincial road 689 leads to Białowieża, which runs here from Bielsk Podlaski. Apart from it, there are no major communication routes in the area

By rail

Białowieża is the end point of the railway line (in operation until 1994) to Hajnówka (line No. 52). Currently, the nearest active railway station is in Hajnówka. It is located on lines no.52 and no.31 (Siedlce - Siemianówka).
