Worth seeing

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Consolation

The history of the church dates back to the beginning of the 11th century when it is referred to as a long-established place of religious worship. The first historical records come from 1232 mention the conquest of the town of Biechów by the Silesian prince Henry the Bearded. The original estates of Biechów were royal estates, hence the kings are credited with establishing a stronghold and building a wooden church of st. Peter, the existence of which is assumed already in the 11th century. From the 14th century, the goods passed into the hands of private owners. The first of them was the Doliw family from Dębno and Biechów, nicknamed "Kot". In the years 1334-1345 it was Mikołaj Doliwa - the voivode of Poznań. In 1439, Maciej Kot, the castellan of Naklo, became the estate's possessor. At the end of the 16th century, the church passed into the hands of Lutherans, when the Pępowski family changed religion. Until 1612 it remains in their hands, until they bring it to ruin - then it is returned to the Catholics, after which the church is demolished and a new wooden one is built. The consecration of the new church was carried out by the suffragan of Poznań, Fr. Bishop Marian Kurski November 7, 1677. In 1718 Świętosław Smarzewski, as the new owner of Biechów, brings Filipino priests from Gostyń, endowing the monastery with land goods and building them a wooden monastery. This foundation was approved by Pope Innocent XIII in 1721. In 1725, the construction of a new brick temple and monastery began under the direction of the founder and owner of Biechów, Franciszek Kowalski. As a result of construction works, the church is destroyed during the storm. In 1737, the construction was started anew and it was completed in 1765, thanks to the financial support of the Poznań swordfish, Bieńkowski. Two years later, the new baroque church burned down during a great fire, which was caused by Ruthenian merchants. In 1770 - from a lightning strike - the roof of the church burns, damaging the structure of the building. Renovation was carried out immediately - the walls were strengthened and the towers added, which were in danger of collapsing, were removed. In 1804 Filipini priests leave Biechowo. The diocesan priests take care of the parish. From 1969, the parish was taken over by the Fathers. Paulini. To this day, the existing church with the monastery is a building from that time. Despite so many experiences, one late baroque style with a rococo interior has been preserved. The temple is a three-nave, hall, with two in: galleries, with dimensions of 40x20x14m. It can accommodate approximately 2,800 people. Church and parish from the second half of The seventeenth century is dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles st. Peter and Paul. At the end of the People's Republic of Poland, from November 1984, for the next several years, Holy Mass was celebrated every month. for the Motherland. Numerous groups of working people, intelligentsia and farmers associated in "Solidarity" began to come to the Sanctuary. The pilgrims funded a monument in honor of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko and a votive plaque commemorating June 1956 in Poznań, and to commemorate the soldiers of the Home Army and officers killed in Katyn. On the walls of the temple there are a number of plaques or souvenirs commemorating these events.
