Bike sharing

StadtRAD rental station on Baumall in Hamburg
  • Bike sharing is a way of renting bicycles for short periods of time and short distances, especially in large cities.
  • However, when traveling further distances and / or renting for a longer period of time, it is better to rent bicycles at bike stations or in rental companies.

Practical advice

  • When parking bicycles at B R systems, as when parking them in other places, attention should be paid to theft protection by coding the bicycles and using secure locks. In addition, no valuables should be left behind.
  • It happens that bike-and-ride systems are used for other purposes as a junkyard. The municipalities remove bicycles that have been parked for too long, colloquially known as "bicycle corpses", after prior notice by sticking notice slips on the bicycles in question. Users can also report bicycle corpses to the operators, i.e. the municipalities or transport companies. In order to prevent misunderstandings, it is advisable to use alternating parking spaces if the same bike-and-ride facility is used continuously.
