Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is a train station of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and the largest passenger station in the state of Salzburg. The station served as a border station until Austria joined the EU and the Schengen Agreement, extensive renovation work was carried out between 2011 and 2013, the station previously had four through platforms and five head platforms, since 2013 the station has nine through platforms and two tracks on one Central platform for the Salzburg Local Railway (SLB), which is located underground. The abolition of the end platforms and the spacious lounge area meant that the marble hall previously located here had to be removed, for this reason the "Citizens' Initiative Save the Marble Hall" was founded, which, as a compromise solution, managed to remove the marble and rebuild it in a different location true to the original. In addition, the main station is a transfer point to the city bus, which consists of the lines of the Salzburg trolleybus (short: OBus) and the lines of the Salzburg bus (diesel buses in city and regional bus traffic).
