Alongside the main train station, the station is the most important long-distance train station in Vienna. All long-distance trains coming from the direction Germany and the Switzerland to Vienna Hbf (and sometimes further towards Slovakia/Hungary) stop in Vienna Meidling. The station gained importance after the Central Station Vienna was put into operation and long-distance traffic from Germany and Switzerland no longer comes via Vienna-Hütteldorf Vienna west train station, but was diverted to Vienna Central Station via Vienna Meidling. The station is in the area of Verkehrsverbundes Ost-Region (VOR).

The station does not have its own parking garage. The nearest public parking garages are in the Arcade Meidling and in the Europlaza. When parking on the street, please note that the 12th district (Meidling) is a paid short-term parking zone.

These are the busiest long-distance bus stations in Vienna Vienna International Bus Terminal in Vienna-Erdberg and that Bus terminal Vienna in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, further bus stops are at the Westbahnhof and the main train station.

By plane

The arrival from Vienna Airport is possible with a Railjet without changing trains. Line S7 runs from the airport to the S-Bahn station Wien Rennweg, from there you can change to the train station on the main line in the direction of Wien Meidling.

The station is served by Schnellbahn, Regional (R) and regional express trains (REX) of the ÖBB, these also run between Wien Meidling and Wien Floridsdorf on the main route.

The station is at the beginning of the S-Bahn main line, which runs from Wien Meidling station to Vienna Floridsdorf station.

There are currently 12 seats available in the station hall, as part of a modernization measure, following renovation work, which began in November 2019, additional seating is to be created and the quality of waiting is to be improved.

There are currently few shopping opportunities in the train station. Every tobacco shop with newspaper sales is located in the train station. In the immediate vicinity, after the exit Meidling main street there is the Meidlinger shopping street as well as a savings market and a drugstore (Müller) as well as several fast food restaurants. The Arcade Meidling shopping center is located at the Meidling Hauptstrasse entrance.
