Hallstatt is a market town in the Inner Salzkammergut on the west bank of the Lake Hallstatt. Since around 1 200 BC Salt is mined here. The area (Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut) was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
