Birkenau lies in the south-westernmost tip of Hesse.

Birkenau is also known as the village of sundials. More than 100 sundials are set up in the entire local area. You can see some of them as you drive through town.

The regional train R 69 leads through the Weschnitz valley Moerlenbach to Fuerth in the Odenwald or in the opposite direction Weinheim to the Mountain road. Here there is a connection to the other Deutsche Bahn route network.

The B38 leads through Birkenau. Since the opening of the Saukopftunnel between Weinheim and Mörlenbach, Birkenau has been significantly relieved of through traffic.

  • Old Town Hall from the year 1552 with its historical half-timbering in the old town center. The railway line to Fürth runs along its back. If you are a stranger to the town hall, you can orientate yourself on the railway line.
  • The late baroque one built in 1771 lock the Baroness Wambolt von Umstadt is located in the center directly on the thoroughfare. This street separates the castle and the castle park. Visits to the castle are not possible for the public, but some of the rooms can be rented temporarily for events.
  • The Castle Park with its old trees is open to the public and is a place of relaxed rest. You can enter the park at any time, no admission is charged.
