Bonaire is one of the Netherlands Antilles.
To know
Bonaire is second in area among the Netherlands Antilles; it is located about fifty kilometers east of Curaçao and is about eighty km from the coasts of Venezuela.
It is an island as dry as its neighbor Curaçao. Its southern part is flat while the northern one is hilly and culminates in Mount Brandaris established as a national park. Agriculture is not practiced and the vegetative mantle is reduced to bushes and cacti.
Despite its uninviting appearance, Bonaire constitutes on par with Curaçao a paradise for those who love scuba diving. Its depths are in fact rich in coral formations and host a colorful underwater fauna. There are also many bird colonies stationed in Bonaire, which attracts fans of "bird watching".
The north-eastern coast is deserted as it is exposed to the trade winds. The small capital, Kralendijk and the hotel complexes are all located on the leeward coast.
